Q: Can mum and dad watch the dance class?
A: First time parents of the younger groups may watch the beginning of the first class to help settle dancers in. After this we find that the children respond much better without parents and siblings in the studio. However, after many years of experience, special tactics are used for those who have trouble separating from their parents, so don’t worry if it takes your dancer a couple of weeks to feel comfortable and participate.
We also have a special Parent Participation Week in Terms 1 and 3, where parents will be able to join in the last 15 minutes of class to get a feel for what the dancers have been working on. We also utilise a free app called BAND where teachers can share class pictures and videos with parents in a safe, child friendly way where content can’t be downloaded.
Q: Is it compulsory to perform in the end of year dance concert?
A: Our concerts are not compulsory but highly recommended. It’s a fun and entertaining experience for everyone involved and a great way for your dancer to show off all their hard work they have done through-out the year. Our concerts are designed to be pressure free and as relaxed as possible for everyone involved.
Our end of year concert is usually at the end of November, so the dancing year finishes before the massive rush and commitments of Christmas start.
Our 2025 concert dates are tenatively booked as follows:
Midyear Showcase: Sunday 1st June (with possible second day on Saturday 31st May)
End of Year Concert: Sunday 30 November (with possible second day on Saturday 29th November)
Q: Can we enrol to dance classes after the term has started?
A: Yes – we accept new students throughout the year. You can enrol directly on our website or if you want to try a class first, you are welcome to book a discovery session.
Q: Does Future Gems Dance Studio break for school holidays?
A: Yes – we dance within the NSW Schools Terms, therefore following NSW School holidays and Public Holidays (except our starting week of the year and our finishing week of the year).
Also, our first week back always starts on a Monday (unless it’s a Public Holiday) even if your child’s school has a pupil free day.
Q: Do I need to buy dance uniform or shoes before I enrol?
A: No – dancers trying classes for the first time are encouraged to come in comfy clothes and sneakers until they are sure they want to continue. Once you have enrolled and paid the new members joining fee, your child will receive their welcome pack including a uniform item that they can wear to class. For our Mini & Emerald gems, this will be the purple class tutu and for Sapphire level and above, our Future Gems Tshirt and a pair of tights. Any additional uniform items can be purchased either at our Open Day at the start of the year or by filling out an order form at the studio.
Q: How can I pay for dance classes?
A: We have a range of options to pay for your dance classes. Cash, Direct Bank Transfer and Credit Card. In week 8-9 you will receive an invoice for your classes for the following term. Any outstanding fees from the previous term will be added to your invoice so you are aware of where your payments are up to. Should you join midway through a term, your invoice will be pro rated from the week of your first discovery session.
Q: How do I order uniform?
A: As the teacher is often busy teaching in class it can be difficult to try on uniform. We will usually be able to guage which size would be best for your child, however we are happy to provide a couple of sizes to try on – just write down their usual clothing size on the order form and we can handle the rest. At each of our venues we have a tray with order forms – simply fill one out and hand to your teacher. Your new uniform will be ready in a couple of weeks and we will send an invoice via email (unless there is someone on reception, in which case, you are welcome to pay by card or cash)
