Why FRIENDSHIPS are important to us at Future Gems North Shore
ABOUT US [FUTURE GEMS]
After our first core value of Inclusiveness, comes our value of Friendships. Of course, this could not be possible without the dancer first feeling a part of the team and welcomed into our family, which is why it is super important we establish this first so that natural, organic friendships can form.
We believe some of the best friendships are formed within the dance class and we will always use activities and props to help friendships form and to encourage supportive team work. When a new student joins, we will always make them feel welcome first by encouraging the class mates to say hello and then we will often pair a buddy with our new friend so that they have a familiar face. Throughout our lessons, we will get the children working in groups, doing steps with a partner and cheering each other on, along the way. This is all part of forming new bonds with the other kids in the class, as well creating connections with new people who they may not know very well.
Shaping our family and community value, we also encourage bonds and friendships to be created between our younger students and older graduate students. Our younger students love having a role model that they can connect with and get to know, through our leadership program and this is further strengthened when our graduate dance students help at the concerts and also extra holiday events.
ABOUT YOU [OUR DREAM FAMILIES]
As a parent, you will simply LOVE how supportive and welcoming we are as a studio. Watch as your little one forms beautiful friendships, built on respect and kindness and gains dancing buddies that last for many, many years. One of the things I know worries parents, is that their child won’t fit in or won’t make friends easily when they head to school.
Dancing is such a fabulous way to bring their confidence out when it comes to engaging with other kids and helps them learn social skills they can pass through to big school. Many of our students love that their dancing buddies also go to their new school and love being able to have some fun with their friends after a long day of learning.
You will also find that as a parent, you will gain some amazing friendships too and will have a support group of mums and dads who have children around the same age as your little dancer. This is so valuable when they head to school, as the parents can keep the familiar social aspect of dance class as well as have a weekly catch up with other parents who are going through the same thing as you.
ABOUT US [YOU AND ME TOGETHER]
Though there is always a professional relationship between the teacher and students, there is always a special bond that is formed and cherished for many years to come. Together in the classroom, we will share moments of happiness – like the times you master a step for the first time or you get into the dance team at school. Or even those times when you have exciting news to share or you simply have joy with the activities we are doing in class. In those times, I’ve got you and I will share your joy and happiness with you.
We will share moments of sadness – like those times when no matter how hard you try, you still can’t master the pirouette or those times when you have a mind blank on stage and forget a section of the dance. Or even those times, when you’ve had a bad day at school or fall over in class. In those times, I’ve got you and I will empathise for you but will also lift you up so you can try again.
We will share moments of excitement – like those times when you know the concert is in 2 more sleeps or when you are moving up a level in dance. Or even those times, when you are having a birthday or have Grandma coming to watch your performance. In those times, I’ve got you and I will share that excitement and watch with twinkling eyes as I put myself back to the times when I too had that excitement.
We will share moments of anxiety – like those times when you’re waiting back stage and you feel like you can’t remember the dance or when you come into class and might not remember a step. Or even those times, when you have a big test coming up or when you have to improvise or perform in front of your class. In those times, I’ve got you and I will help you calm those nerves and encourage you forward so you can achieve your best.
In every situation, whether good or bad, I will be there for you as a teacher but also a friend. We are a team and I care about each of you so deeply… More than you will ever know. The bond a dance teacher forms with her students is so magical and is cherished for years (even after you’ve stopped coming to us)
