Parents guide to the dance concert – Hair & Makeup
One of the most exciting aspects of the dance concerts can sometimes be the prospect of wearing makeup and doing their hair nicely for the stage. But as a parent you are probably freaking out with the idea of having to somehow get their hair into a neat bun and applying their makeup in a way that doesn’t make them look like a clown!
It doesn’t have to be tricky, in fact it can be quite simple… But a couple of practice rounds may be in order and a few replays of the videos below is a definite must!
HAIR
To keep it easy for you, all styles of dance will require a medium level bun. Please make sure it is slicked back with water, gel and hairspray (with no whispy or untidy bits) For our boys just make sure it is neat and looking extra cool! If you are not sure how to do a bun, you can see a video demonstration here.
MAKEUP
Make-up is optional. We understand that some parents would prefer not to put make-up on their dancer and respect your decision either way. We suggest our dancers wear make-up as it helps lift the dancer’s face from under the strong light on the stage. If you are happy to put some on your dancer: Foundation/powder, skin coloured blush, light-coloured eye shadow (purples and pinks for our younger dancers and natural brown tones for our older dancers), mascara, eyeliner and bright red lipstick. JEWELLRY: No jewellery of any kind is to be worn on stage. Please take it off before coming so it does not get lost back stage.
