Our promise to you at Future Gems North Shore
“mummmm…. Can I pleaseeeee go to dancing class?” (said as she twirls in her Elsa tutu and puts on a mini showcase for the 100th time 😜) Does this sound familiar?! Trust me, you’re not the only one! This is one of the most regularly repeated lines when I get an enquiry “she is literally nagging me for dancing and I have finally gotten around to calling” 😂 I get it and I also get why there might be a little bit of hesitation from your side.
1. She’s tried things before and just stood there (queue frustration!)
2. I’ve seen dance classes for 3 year olds before and it just looks like playtime
3. She gets very anxious leaving me (she’s going to scream her lungs off!)
4. What if it’s too strict and traditional (my child can’t handle that)
5. I’m not wasting money for my 3yr old when she won’t learn anything
Trust me, I’ve heard all of these before and I hear you. There is nothing worse than when these things happen and you’ve instilled your trust into somebody else, only to be let down. That is why I can promise that at Future Gems, we do it differently. I’m not promising that your little one won’t cry. I’m not promising that they won’t be scared. I’m not promising that they will join straightaway. In fact, I can almost guarantee that these things will happen – after all they are only young and it’s a new experience that seems scary and unfamiliar.
But what I can promise, is that we will be there every step of the way and will support your child in whatever way they need. For some children, this may look like, allowing them to watch for the first lesson without too much prompting from the teacher, encouraging them to join in. For other children, it may be getting down to their level, complimenting them and hi-fiving them along the way. For some, they may work better with mum waiting outside, so that they don’t get distracted and restless within the class.
I can promise, that whatever personality type your child is, we will meet them at the level they are comfortable with and will always use warm, gentle and nurturing words to help them feel confident within the class.
I can promise that we will communicate with you and will always do what’s best for the child. For some children, what’s best is that mum waits outside so that they can truly focus within the classroom. For other children, what’s best is that mum stays within the classroom for several weeks and gradually eases out of the classroom, so as to not distress the little one.
Every child is individual and we treat them as such. I can promise, when you join our dance family, your child will learn in a fun, playful and imaginative environment that stimulates their engagement and excitement.
Yes, it might look like play, but we use these tools to compliment their learning in a way that they connect with. It has been proven that play based learning is the best way for a child to connect, understand, replicate and remember steps. When you join our family, you can rest assured that your child is learning beautiful technique, age appropriate choreography and progressions that both challenge and improve your dancer. Even more importantly though, you can rest assured knowing that they are learning to be kind, patient, loving, generous, supportive, resilient, confident and empowered young children.
