Why technique is Secondary… Building the Whole Child is Primary
When your child first starts nagging you to take them to dance classes, there may be a number of things that run through your head and a range of questions that need answering… When are the classes? Who is running the classes? Does it suit my schedule? But then when you start to delve a little deeper, you may start to ask yourself “what do I really want my child to achieve in their dance classes?”
Now for some great technique, a great skill set and the chance to perform as many times as possible, is the most important thing. But what about those skills that are going to make them more confident for their first day of school… Or give them the ability to work socially and in a team… Or ignite their imagination & creativity to allow them to excel in other areas of their life?
I don’t know about you, but I think there is a greater meaning to the word skills. There are more important assets that we can be developing in our children, rather than teaching them to be the best and better than others.
To us, we are focused on building the whole child. That means we care about their confidence, their self-esteem and their journey. We want them to feel included and valued within the classroom, so that they can feel encouraged and supported to gain beautiful friends that allow their inner confidence to burst.
We want their dance family to be like a second home… A safe place – free of judgement, free of negativity and free of competition. It is our mission to empower these children to dream and to believe in themselves and their ability. It is our mission to ensure that they find a love & passion in dance which then gives them the skills to be a leader in other areas of their life.
We believe in teaching these ‘skills’ in our classes. Technique is secondary. Yes it is important and of course it develops some amazing physical and mental skills – that is the beauty of dance. But in order for these children to succeed in life, they first need someone who believes in them and will inspire them to do the same. Every child deserves to feel special and proud of their achievements. It is about the journey they go and the happiness they gain.
